This week the children reached the final part of our writing journey: a letter to the governors discussing the advantages and disadvantages of school residentials.

During this unit, they have explored photos and heard experiences of our residential to Fairthorne Manor and learnt about all the benefits. However, they also received a letter from Sue Barham (our chair of governors) which raised concerns over the increasing costs. As part of our Diversity and Equality pillar, we explored the issues around inflation and the cost of living and how not everyone can afford these experiences which could be unfair.

The children have been learning how to write a balanced argument and have explored using a range of adverbials for addition and opposition. This week they have edited their writing and today they took great pride in publishing their letters in neat ready for the governors. I was so impressed with the focus and concentration of all the children today; the standard of presentation is fantastic.

Mrs Oldham, one of our school governors, came into visit this afternoon and the children enjoyed the opportunity to share their letters with her and discuss the range of issues. Mrs Oldham took lots of notes to share with the other governors at their next meeting.
