Our first week back was full of lots of excitement for our new topics. On Monday, we launched our new Design Technology construction project (guillotines) and we began to recap methods for making models strong, sturdy and secure. We had two team challenges:
1) To create the tallest tower possible using only newspaper and tape.
2) To make a base to help a piece of spar wood stand strong.
We had lots of fun exploring different techniques and evaluating which techniques were most effective.
On Tuesday, we then launched our new history topic: Crime and Punishment. Our DT work on guillotines is linked to this and we had lots of fun learning all about stocks and pillories. Our highlight of the afternoon was walking down to the village hall to role play some of the humiliating activities that took place in stocks and pillories.
