Rivers Trip to St Cross
Both Years 5 and 6 had a wonderful trip to the River Itchen at St. Cross this week. The trip was supported by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Trust who kindly shared their expertise with us.
We rotated around three activities:
1) Measuring river velocity and depth (Mrs Simmons dog biscuits floated very well!)
2) Stream dipping to discover the inhabitants of the River Itchen
3) Sketch mapping physical and human features around the River Itchen and a talk on the value of chalk streams.
It was great to be outdoors for the morning carrying out some hands on fieldwork, but the highlight for most was a picnic lunch of chips shared with friends!
