Otterbourne Church of England
Primary School

With God's love, all are encouraged to thrive

Friday 12th November

This week, has been a week to remember. The whole class has been learning and developing new skills including performing in our remembrance day service both in the church and at the memorial.

In English this week, we have been learning about hyphens. We have been practicing some tricky hyphenated spellings such as:

  • Co-ordinate
  • Co-operate
  • Re-enter
  • Re-examine

As well as this, in maths we have started our new topic on fractions, decimals and percentages. We have been learning how to simplify fractions and improper fractions, converting mixed numbers and adding/ subtracting various types of fractions. We are all starting to become more confident in this area of mathematics.

Also, in guided reading, we have been learning an iconic Remembrance Day poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ in preparation for the remembrance service. We had the option to learn just one verse or the whole poem. We managed to pick it up in time for the service. The performance was a success.

Art was also beneficial as we painted the background of our poppy masterpieces using carefully mixed colours. It took all afternoon but they turned out fantastic!

On the whole, it was a good week for all in year 6.
