Today marked the start of an exciting and one of a kind music and science collaboration project with The University of Southampton. Five members of staff including Professor Ian Williams (Professorof Applied EnvironmentalScience) and Robin Browning (conductor for Turner Sims orchestra) came in to school to welcome the children to the project and explain a bit more about it.
The project will see the children making their own music from old electronic devices such as mobile phones, computers, and alarm clocks, writing their own music with the help of the musicians from the orchestra, writing their own lyrics with help from the university's songwriters and eventually rehearsing and performing their piece alongside the orchestra early on next year.
We are thrilled to be collaborating with the University on such an important, exciting and enriching project and look forward to seeing what the children achieve over the next few months!
Pictures from the first event can be found on the Year 3/4 class pages.
The sun is shining on us today for us to take our part in global Outdoor Classroom Day. Giving children opportunities to experience lessons outdoors makes learning memorable and fun for children. Look out for photos of science club planting trees from the Woodland Trust, natural art from year 5, year 1 and 2 studying trees and year 3/4 investigating rubbish and outdoor maths.
